I love the snarky voice you gave Creon in your journal. I could so see him writing this in his diary. His voice sort of foreshadows his craziness in Antigone when he doesn't allow her to bury the body of her brother who fought for his claim to the throne. Creon is definitely not my favorite character in this tragedy.

I agree with what you said about Oedipus the King and The Wild Duck. I think the speech in Oedipus is more important, although there can be stage directions that help enlighten what's going on, like you said. The stage directions are much more important in Wild Duck because they help the audience understand the characters' reactions when that isn't always clear from their dialogue.

I agree with your ideas about how Ibsen and Sophocles portray the idea of defieance in their respective plays. Ibsen casts defiance in the face of injustice in a positive light, while Sophocles seems to almost disparage the concept of defiance. To me, it seems unfair to Oedipus, because in order to stop the suffering of his people he has to find Laius' killer. He doesn't really have a choice in the matter, which I guess makes it more tragic.
